"How to Market Your Study Abroad Experience to Employers"
In this project, I was able to integrate First Principles of Instruction while designing and developing an effective and appealing Web-based unit of instruction utilizing Dreamweaver software.
Context
Time frame of project:
June-July 2017
Team members:
This project was completed individually.
Scope of Project:
This project included the creation of instructional objectives, mastery assessment, paper prototype, Web-based prototype, formative evaluation, and a final presentation. The instruction required 45-60 minutes for the average learner to complete.
Project Overview
The purpose of this project was to utilize a specific design process to create a Web-based instruction (45-60 minutes long) that utilized First Principles of Instruction and also assessed the learner's achievement of the learning objectives. Additionally, the use of Dreamweaver software was required to create the website for the instruction.
This project began with defining the problem space and my target audience. I chose a topic and audience I was familiar with in career services-teaching undergraduate students how to market their study abroad experience to employers. Next I created observable and measurable learning objectives along with an outline of how I would apply First Principles of Instruction into my design.
A mastery assessment was then created that described my approach to assessing the learner's achievement of the learning objectives, providing draft questions and answers assigned to each specific objective. A performance rubric was provided for the assessment portion that required instructor feedback.
I designed a paper prototype and tested with target audience members prior to designing the Web-based prototype. From the findings of the paper prototype test, revisions were made to the design of the instruction and website. After completion of the Web-based instruction, I performed a formative evaluation and compiled a report describing my test subjects, the testing context and methods, observations from the usability tests and recommended revisions.
I created a final video presentation that summarized my project's purpose, key findings from both the paper and web prototype usability tests and reflections about what I had learned throughout the project experience.
